SYC Ensemble Singers

The Singapore Youth Choir (SYC) Ensemble Singers (previously known as the Singapore Youth Choir) is a distinguished choral group in Singapore formed in 1964.[1]

The SYC is currently led by Ms Jennifer Tham, a leading choral instructor in Singapore.

Formed in 1964, the SYC has achieved numerous accolades and awards, including:

Currently led by Ms Jennifer Tham, the SYC performs works of living and past composers. Ms Jennifer Tham is also a choral instructor with few secondary schools and junior colleges in Singapore.

Past performances

The SYC presented Three - A Festival of 3 Choirs at the Esplanade Concert Hall on 4 December 2006. The concert also featured the Ateneo Chamber Singers from the Philippines and the Gaia Philharmonic Choir from Japan. The Choir's most recent performance was at the Esplande Recital Studio on 31 March 2007, entitled "Magic, Moonlight and Madmen." Currently, the choir is preparing for their overseas tour to Bandung in June 2007 and will be the recording choir for NDP 2007.

The SYC celebrated their 40th Anniversary in 2004 with a concert featuring 10 new commissions from distinguished composers from and out of Singapore. Singaporean composers commissioned were Babes Condes, Zechariah Goh Toh Chai, Hoh Chung Shih, Shui Jiang Tian and Kelly Tang; while Ryan Cayabyab (Philippines), Chen Yi (China/USA), Alberto Grau (Venezuela), Eskil Hemberg (Sweden), and Ko Matsushita (Japan) were overseas composers that were commissioned.
